Colton's Story
When Colton was 28 days old he was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is the most common form of cardiomyopathy and it affects about 6 in every million children each year. DCM occurs when disease affected muscle fibers are enlarged or stretched (dilated). Prior to being diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, Colton had surgery to repair a hole in he heart via catheter. Unfortunately, Colton is not only affected by cardiomyopathy but also has an extra half chromosome 22, which had caused him to have a lot of additional problems. Because of the extra chromosome, Colton has muscle tone problems which has caused him to bot be able to walk or crawl, and had made him wheelchair bound. Due to Colton's condition he spent 11 days in his hometown hospital in Brownwood Texas, then was transferred to Cooks in Ft Worth Texas for an additional 2 1/2 weeks. To help with his heart condition, Colton was placed on two different heart medications. Colton is now 5 years old and his heart has gotten better since being diagnosed with DCM but he is still considered having congested heart failure. Because of Colton's condition, I always have to be there with him when he needs me, so I cannot work. We also have to travel every 3 to 6 months to the Cooks clinic in Abilene or Ft Worth for doctor visits. Thanks to all the support that Casen's Crew receives, there were able to give our family a donation to help with all the medical expenses.
